In everyday German use, almost everyone says Fahrzeugschein and Fahrzeugbrief. Officially, they are called registration certificate Part I and registration certificate Part II.

Contains important vehicle data and normally belongs with a registered vehicle while it is in use.

Is central for the final transaction and should not be handed over casually or before payment has been properly clarified.
HU/TUV report: why it creates confidence.
The HU/TUV status shows when the next main roadworthiness inspection is due. This matters to buyers and dealers because it can influence condition, expected effort and the next step.
A missing report is not automatically a reason to stop the sale. It should be addressed openly so the situation can be assessed cleanly.
Service book, invoices and proof.
A traceable maintenance history makes a vehicle easier to assess. Relevant items include inspections, oil changes, brakes, tyres, timing belt, repairs and larger maintenance work.

What applies with financing or leasing?
With ongoing financing or leasing, it is especially important to clarify the situation early. The registration certificate Part II may be held by the bank, and any remaining loan balance has to be included properly in the decision.
